Control software for off-grid sanitation

A focused software-development engagement for LooWatt: a library to control the hardware in a bespoke, waterless waste-processing system.

The problem

LooWatt builds waterless toilet systems that turn human waste into energy and fertiliser — sanitation infrastructure designed for places conventional plumbing can't reach. Systems like these live at the messy boundary between software and physical hardware, where the code has to be as dependable as the machine it drives.

The work

This was a deliberately small, well-scoped engagement: a software library to control the hardware in one of LooWatt's bespoke waste-processing systems. Not every project needs a model — sometimes the useful thing is a clean, reliable piece of software that makes the hardware do exactly what it should, and engagements are sized to the problem.
